Twelfth House (Spiritual Beliefs)

This house is the furthest away from the outside world. It is the innermost part of ourselves. It covers our spiritual beliefs (or otherwise), our secret self. Planets here are kept solely for our own private use.

The astrological sign in the twelfth house describes our feelings about religion and spiritual matters. Fire signs will feel driven to pursue a belief, earth signs will follow a traditional path in these matters, air signs will enjoy discussing them, and water signs will have an empathy with all mankind.

It is tempting to put vicars and priests in this house (and anyone involved in any religion will certainly have a strong planet here), but they stand up in the public eye to preach and thus have a desire to maintain a strong connection with others. Preaching one’s own beliefs to others is not really a twelfth house activity, which is more of a place for quiet, private reflection.

A planet here will not be expressed outwardly, but the individual will feel it strongly. Those with the sun in the twelfth house are reclusive. Although they might appear to function in the world in a normal way by having a job and friends, in reality they are just putting on a front. They enjoy being alone to think. Some might actually retreat from the world.

Twelfth house people feel the need to go off on their own to quietly contemplate and meditate on the meaning of their existence. They view the commercial world and all the jostling for position and security as meaningless.

People with the moon in the twelfth house will not be able to emotionally relate to others in a way beyond friendship. They may have relationships, but they will stop short at making a full commitment because their emotional energy is not available to others. Very often, children with the moon in the twelfth house spend a lot of time alone in their rooms, but quite happily. They like their own company.
